Lightroom Classic 10.2

Lightroom Classic 10.2 is now available via the Creative Cloud app. Use Check for Updates in the app. Note that the updates rolls out by area, so may take time to be available where you are. This is mostly a performance and bug fix update with a beta feature added for Nikon users. Areas of improvement include image walking in Library and Develop, as well as improved Big Sur compatibility. No reference is made to M1 processors though.

Note that Lightroom for Desktop and mobile has also seen updates.

New Features

Nikon Live View

The big feature for this a Beta version of Tethered Live View for Nikon Cameras-with the exception of the new Z series cameras. Why a beta? Well, they could’ve waited another release cycle before adding the feature, but decided that the public using it could benefit from early access and influence the final features.

A note on the Z series cameras-while Live View is not available, normal tether has been added for the Z5, Z6II and Z7II.

The Live View will open in a separate window. The window can be resized. The feature works similarly to the Canon version available from 10.0. Note both Canon and Nikon’s SDK have been updated in this version.

Library Performance

Library view modes have seen performance rewrites to help speed access. The modes improved are Grid, Loupe, Survey and Compare views in Library as well as the Filmstrip. This should be visible as

  • Faster image walking in Compare

  • Faster image walking in Loupe view (as in going from image to image)

  • Smoother scrolling in Grid using mouse or trackpad scrolling.

Another Library optimisation is in how Lightroom detects the addition or removal of an image source folder.

Develop Performance

macOS has seen optimisation in image walking in Develop as you search for images in Develop rather than Library Loupe.

The Navigator and Detail window code has been redone for better performance.

Batch Performance

Batch workflow options have seen great improvements, mean faster image processing via:

  • Quick Develop

  • Copy Paste Settings

  • Auto Sync

  • Sync Settings

SQLite Update

Something under the hood, but the internal catalog database software has been update to give access to newer database technology.

Tether Additions

As well as the aforementioned Nikon Z5, Z6II and Z7II, tether capability has been added for the n • EOS R6, EOS R5, EOS Kiss X10i, EOS Rebel T8i, EOS 850D & EOS Ra.

New Camera Additions

New cameras released since 10.1 have been added:

DJI Mavic 2 Pro (HasselbladL1D-20c), Fujifilm GFX 100 IR, Fujifilm GFX 100S, Fujifilm X-E4, Phase One IQ4 150MP Achromatic • Samsung Galaxy S21(+) phone cameras and the Sony Alpha 1 (ILCE-1).

Others

A range of lens profiles from the Rokinon 85 f1.4 to the Sony 35mm FE f1.4 GM were added, along with a range of bug fixes. Among them a lot of GPU related issues were fixed, so if you had to turn off GPU, try turning it back on again.
